CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing)

What is CAM?

CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software turns a 3D CAD model into machine toolpaths and then into G-code. The programmer selects tools, cutting strategies and parameters; the CAM system calculates the motion and a post processor outputs code for the specific machine and control.

CAM is what makes complex 3D, 5-axis and mold work practical — hand-writing that G-code would be impossible.
