Hardness (HRC) (Rockwell C)

What is Hardness (HRC)?

Hardness, often on the Rockwell C scale (HRC), measures a material's resistance to indentation — a proxy for wear resistance and how hard it is to machine. Hardened tool steels run 45–65 HRC.

Above roughly 45 HRC, conventional cutting gives way to hard turning, grinding or EDM.
