Tool Steel Machining

What is Tool Steel Machining?

Tool steels (A2, D2, H13, O1, etc.) are alloyed for hardness and wear resistance, used for dies, molds and cutting tools. Soft (annealed) they machine like tough alloy steel; hardened (45–65 HRC) they move into hard turning, grinding or EDM.

Mold and die shops machine tool steel soft, heat treat, then finish by grinding or EDM.
