Swing

What is Swing?

Swing is the largest workpiece diameter a lathe can rotate without hitting the bed or cross-slide — 'swing over bed' is the absolute maximum, 'swing over cross-slide' the practical turning diameter. It's a headline lathe capacity spec.

A bigger swing means bigger round parts, but usually a heavier, costlier machine.
