Insert (Indexable Insert)

What is Insert?

An indexable insert is a small replaceable carbide cutting tip clamped into a toolholder, turning tool or milling cutter. When an edge wears, the operator rotates (indexes) to a fresh edge or swaps the insert — no regrinding.

Inserts come in standardized shapes, grades and coatings matched to the material and operation, and are the workhorse of production turning and milling.
