An HMC (horizontal machining center) is a CNC machining center with a horizontally oriented spindle. The layout lets chips fall away from many cutting zones and can place several part faces within reach when the work is mounted on a tombstone or rotary fixture.
Many production HMCs are configured with pallets or an automatic pallet changer so setup can occur outside the enclosure while another job runs. That workflow is common, not universal: pallet count, rotary-axis capability, tool capacity and automation readiness vary by model and installed options.
Compare travels, pallet and work-envelope limits, rotary-axis capacity, spindle torque and taper, tool count, chip and coolant systems, probing, control generation, service support and demonstrated geometry. Verify the installed options and serial-specific manuals; a family name does not establish the configuration or condition of a particular used HMC.
Haas Automation — Horizontal Mills describes current builder configurations, pallet workflows and production applications.
