Encoder

What is Encoder?

An encoder is the sensor that reports position or rotation to a CNC control. A rotary encoder on the motor/ballscrew infers axis position (semi-closed loop); a linear encoder (glass scale) reads the axis directly (closed loop) for higher accuracy.

Encoder type and resolution are a big factor in a machine's precision and stability.
