DRO (Digital Readout)

What is DRO?

A DRO (Digital Readout) displays a machine axis's exact position from a linear scale, letting an operator position manually to precise dimensions without counting handwheel turns. It's common on manual mills, lathes and grinders.

A DRO reads position but doesn't drive the axis — that's what separates a DRO-equipped manual machine from a CNC.
