Climb Milling

What is Climb Milling?

In climb milling the cutter rotates with the feed direction, so each tooth starts at full chip thickness and exits thin. It gives better finish and tool life and pushes the work down into the fixture — the default on rigid CNC machines with no backlash.

Its opposite is conventional (up) milling, which suits worn or manual machines with backlash.
