Tailstock

What is Tailstock?

The tailstock is the movable component at the far end of a lathe bed that supports the free end of a long workpiece with a center, or holds a drill for center-line drilling. It counters deflection so slender parts can be turned accurately.

Its travel and quill determine how long a part the lathe can support between centers.
