Rapid Traverse

What is Rapid Traverse?

Rapid traverse is the maximum non-cutting speed at which a machine moves an axis to position the tool between cuts. Faster rapids cut cycle time on parts with lots of tool moves, especially drilling patterns and multi-feature work.

Rapids are quoted in inches or meters per minute and are far higher than cutting feed rates.
