Positioning Accuracy vs Repeatability

What's the difference?

Two precision specs that sound alike but mean different things — and both matter when judging a machine.

Positioning Accuracy
How close the machine gets to the exact commanded position over the axis travel. Reflects ballscrew/scale quality and compensation.
Repeatability
How consistently it returns to the SAME position on repeated moves. Even with a small fixed error, a repeatable machine can be compensated to make identical parts all day.

Bottom line

Repeatability is usually the tighter, more telling number for production — consistency you can correct for beats raw accuracy you can't. Great machines have both; watch repeatability first.
