Probing (On-Machine Probing)

What is Probing?

Probing uses a touch probe in the spindle (or a table probe for tools) to automatically set part offsets, measure features and check tools — turning the machine into its own measuring device. Systems like Renishaw and Haas WIPS cut setup time and scrap.

In-process probing catches errors before they ruin a part and enables adaptive, unattended machining.
