F1 hybrid system, Formula 1 MGU-K, 2026 F1 battery

A manufacturing guide to the electrical half of the 2026 power unit and the precision required beyond conventional engine parts.

Electrical power moved toward the center

The FIA's 2026 framework increases MGU-K output to 350 kW and removes the MGU-H. That shifts more competitive importance toward energy recovery, deployment, battery performance, controls and integration. It also broadens the manufacturing conversation beyond traditional engine machining.

Mechanical and electrical precision meet

Rotors, shafts, bearings, housings, cooling structures, busbars, insulation systems, connectors and power electronics require different process controls. Dimensional accuracy, balance, cleanliness, dielectric integrity, thermal contact and vibration durability all contribute to the same assembly.

Thermal management is part of the architecture

Heat moves through cells, conductors, electronics, coolant and structure. Manufacturing variation at interfaces can change thermal resistance and durability. Joining methods, flatness, surface condition, seals and leak testing become as relevant as the electrical design.

Validation spans disciplines

Electrical test, insulation resistance, thermal cycling, vibration, spin testing, software calibration and full-system dynamometer work can all contribute to validation. A hybrid system is strongest when mechanical, electrical, software and manufacturing teams use the same configuration and traceability records.

Questions buyers and engineers should ask

  • What functional requirement is this process or inspection intended to control?
  • Which drawing, model and revision define the current configuration?
  • What material condition and upstream process history enter this operation?
  • How will the result be verified, recorded and connected to the part identity?
  • What is public fact, what is engineering inference and what remains proprietary?
