Market findings
The September 2026 MBB snapshot contains 750 indexable router records. Of those, 671 carry asking prices inside the published $500-to-$5-million analytical range.
The range describes published asking prices in this category—not completed sales and not the value of a particular machine.
Manufacturer mix and asking prices
Representation affects the category result. A heavily listed manufacturer or model family can pull the combined median toward its particular product and age mix.

Model concentration
Model-level evidence is more useful than a category-wide average, but identical names can still hide option, control, age and condition differences. These counts show the most repeated normalized model labels in the MBB category snapshot.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Laguna Smartshop 2 | 47 | 43 | $21,062 | $27,930 | $40,000 |

| Shopsabre Pro 408 | 25 | 24 | $26,875 | $30,000 | $46,125 |
| Laguna Smartshop M | 21 | 20 | $20,450 | $24,825 | $26,995 |
| Haas Gr510 | 16 | 16 | $42,562 | $61,100 | $80,812 |
| Industrial Cnc Artisan 408 | 15 | 13 | $10,000 | $12,000 | $17,000 |

Model labels are normalized catalog fields. Confirm the serial number, exact configuration and manufacturer specification before using a model comparison.
Machine age and asking-price spread
Age organizes the search, but it does not replace configuration and condition evidence. The table separates inventory and price ranges by broad production-year band.

| Production-year band | Listings | Qualified | Q1 | Median | Q3 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Before 2000 | 20 | 15 | $8,000 | $9,000 | $16,750 |
| 2000-2009 | 136 | 120 | $10,000 | $17,402 | $30,000 |
| 2010-2019 | 322 | 287 | $10,000 | $20,000 | $35,000 |
| 2020-2026 | 272 | 249 | $12,000 | $25,000 | $48,044 |
| Year Not Usable | 0 | 0 | $0 | $0 | $0 |
What this equipment does
A CNC router moves a rotating cutting tool through a programmed path to cut, drill, profile or engrave sheet and block material. Gantry construction, large work areas and vacuum workholding are common, but spindle, frame, control and process capability vary widely across woodworking, plastics, composites and nonferrous-metal applications.
The router category spans compact machines, nested-base production systems, heavy industrial platforms and specialized trimming cells. Table dimensions alone do not establish rigidity, cutting capability, automation or the condition of the complete dust and workholding system.
That operating context is essential: an asking-price comparison is strongest when the candidate machines can perform the same work with comparable process capability, capacity and support.
What changes value
No single depreciation curve captures the working differences within this category. Document these factors before comparing the candidate to the published range:
- Working area, gantry clearance, Z travel, frame construction and supported material envelope
- Spindle speed, power, taper or collet system, duty cycle and documented spindle condition
- Vacuum table design, pump capacity, zoning, spoilboard strategy and included workholding
- Automatic toolchanger, drill bank, aggregate heads, knife or specialty processing options
- Control, drives, software, postprocessor availability, probing and production-file compatibility
- Dust or chip extraction, lubrication, electrical cabinet, motion components and operating evidence
Buyer inspection questions
- Confirm the exact table size, usable work envelope, Z clearance, spindle and supported materials.
- Run the spindle through its operating range and inspect collet, taper, bearings, cooling and tool changes.
- Test vacuum zones and pumps with representative material; document leaks and hold-down performance.
- Cycle all axes, drill banks, aggregate heads, probes, knives, conveyors and loading systems included.
- Review control, software, posts, license transfer and availability of replacement drives and components.
- Price dust collection, vacuum pumps, electrical service, compressed air, tooling, material flow and restart work.
Scope boundary: this is an educational framework, not a substitute for an OEM, technician, rigger, electrician, environmental professional, safety professional, attorney or other qualified adviser appropriate to the transaction.
Seller evidence package
A useful router package identifies the usable work area, spindle, control, vacuum pumps and zones, toolchanger, drill bank, dust hardware, software and transferable licenses. Show the machine cutting representative material and state whether tooling, pumps, tables, loaders, conveyors and extraction equipment are included.
Define inspection access, deposits, payment timing, loading, removal deadline, risk transfer and the parties responsible for each cost in the written agreement. Buyers and sellers should obtain appropriate professional advice for their facts.
Production readiness and safety
Plan around sheet or stock handling as well as the machine footprint. Verify door and aisle access, floor, electrical service, transformer needs, air, vacuum pumps, dust or chip collection, fire considerations, noise, network and software requirements, unloading and qualified local service.
Rotating tools, automatic motion, ejected material and process-generated dust require qualified review. OSHA machine-guarding resources address points of operation and safeguarding; OSHA's woodworking guide discusses flying material and its publication on automated routers describes source-control approaches for wood dust.
Methods, limits and download
MBB filtered the September 25, 2026 catalog snapshot to indexable records whose normalized category equals “Router.” Price statistics include numeric asking prices from $500 through $5 million. The median is the 50th percentile; Q1 and Q3 mark the middle half of retained prices.
The records are not a probability sample of all machines. Source mix, omitted prices, stale listings, duplicate commercial exposure and incomplete machine facts can bias the result. Public aggregate downloads omit personal information, private records and row-level third-party listing data.
