Snapshot and unit of analysis
The report uses the MBB machine catalog snapshot built on September 25, 2026. The unit of analysis is an indexable listing record. A record represents an observed machine or industrial-equipment listing in the catalog; it is not proof of a completed transaction.
Coverage
- 12,750 indexable listing records
- 11,855 records with a positive numeric asking price
- 10,796 prices included in the analytical band
- 1,476 manufacturer names and 35 categories
- 41,354 indexable model records
Price inclusion rule
Numerical summaries include published asking prices from $500 through $5,000,000. Records without a numeric price are excluded. Values outside the band are excluded to reduce the effect of placeholders, unit errors, bundled assets and exceptional industrial systems. The rule is mechanical; it does not establish that every retained value is correct.
Statistics
The median is the 50th percentile. Q1 is the 25th percentile and Q3 is the 75th percentile. The Q1–Q3 interval describes the middle half of included asking prices. Category and manufacturer summaries require at least 12 qualified asking-price records in the build process, although the published report displays only the largest groups.
What “asking price” means
An asking price is the amount publicly presented for a listing when observed. It is not a verified sale price, invoice, appraisal, dealer acquisition cost, auction result, net seller proceeds or total production-ready cost.
Known limitations
- The records are not a probability sample of the entire used-equipment market.
- Source coverage and category mix can change the combined median.
- Some machines are advertised without prices and are absent from price statistics.
- Listings can become stale, be duplicated commercially or change without notice.
- Condition, hours, options and maintenance evidence are incomplete in many public records.
- Brand names reflect source normalization and can include legacy naming variants.
Valuation library versus market snapshot
MBB maintains a broader valuation research layer containing 55,113 historical price-guide records and 10,672 published value-reference pages. Those resources help organize machine-specific research, but they are not treated as completed sales in this report. The September market statistics are calculated from the catalog snapshot described above.
Reproducibility
Aggregate category, manufacturer and vintage outputs are available as CSV files. The public package intentionally omits personally identifiable information, private records and row-level third-party listing data. Machine Blue Book retains the build manifest, snapshot identity and validation record for the edition.
