CNC Asking Price Versus Sale Price

A published asking price proves what was requested at one moment. It does not prove the final price, the included terms or the seller's net proceeds.

Asking price

The public number requested by a seller or intermediary. It may include negotiation room, dealer margin, preparation, loading, warranty or no additional service at all.

Completed-sale price

The documented consideration in a completed transaction. Its usefulness depends on whether configuration, condition, included equipment, currency, timing and transaction terms are known.

Trade-in value

The amount offered as part of another purchase. It can reflect convenience, resale risk, transport, inspection, refurbishment and margin rather than open-market exposure.

Auction result

A time-bound market result shaped by bidder reach, inspection access, buyer premium, removal deadlines, payment terms and the seller's reserve or lack of reserve.

Net proceeds

The amount the seller retains after commission, fees, preparation, loading, storage, taxes where applicable and negotiated credits. This is often the most important seller number.

How MBB uses asking-price evidence

MBB presents asking-price observations as one layer of market context and labels their limitation. A defendable working range requires machine-specific adjustments and, when available, stronger transaction evidence.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions answered directly.

How much below asking price do CNC machines sell for?

There is no reliable universal percentage. Negotiation depends on demand, condition, time on market, seller urgency, included services and the quality of comparable evidence.

Is an auction result always fair market value?

Not automatically. Auction format, exposure, inspection, buyer premium, timing and removal terms all affect the result.

Why is trade-in value lower than retail asking price?

A trade-in party may assume inspection, transport, holding, repair, marketing and resale risk and needs margin for that work.
