THE COMPLETE DECISION

An inspection should answer the purchase question, not produce an impressive checklist with no acceptance standard. Define access, tests, evidence and limits before the visit.

IdentitySerial, control, configuration, options and included property
ConditionVisual, power-on, functional and maintenance evidence
GeometryNamed tests, instruments, conditions and acceptance basis
BoundaryExcluded systems, inaccessible areas and unresolved questions

Confirm identity first

Match manufacturer, model, serial, year, control, option records and data plate to the offered machine. Record what is installed, what is disconnected and which accessories or software are included.

Define operating access

State whether the machine can be powered, warmed, jogged, run through tool changes, demonstrate spindle speeds, execute a test program or cut material. A static visual review and a production demonstration support different conclusions.

Choose tests around risk

Geometry, backlash, spindle condition, axis load, alarms, coolant, chip handling, probing, rotary systems and safety devices can require different tools and time. The inspector should state method, observed condition and limitations rather than imply complete coverage.

Connect inspection to the agreement

Specify who pays, who may attend, safety rules, confidentiality, damage responsibility, acceptance criteria, cure rights and what happens if access or condition differs from the offer. Preserve dated photos, reports and machine state.
