A permit authorizes
a configuration and a route.
Changing the tractor, trailer, axle spacing, load dimensions or route can change the analysis and may invalidate the movement authority.
Start with the controlling facts.
This guide organizes official sources and machine-specific questions. It is not a permit, route approval, engineering analysis or legal opinion.
Published PAS self-issue limits
- FDOT currently states that eligible Trip permits may be self-issued through PAS using its GIS feature.
- Published ceilings are 16 feet wide, 18 feet high, 150 feet long and 200,000 pounds.
- FDOT publishes a separate 140,000-pound ceiling for self-propelled equipment.
- These ceilings do not guarantee a route, permit or self-issue result for a particular load.
Route diligence before dispatch
- Confirm origin and destination addresses are compatible with the planned approach.
- Review posted bridges, construction, vertical clearance and weight-restriction resources.
- Identify local streets, toll facilities, ports and private-property access outside FDOT's authority.
- Recheck FL511, weather, closures and the permit immediately before movement.
Turn the facts into a controlled move.
Every handoff should have a named owner, a source document and a stop-work condition.
Create the loaded configuration
Use actual tractor, trailer, axles, axle spacing, loaded dimensions and weights.
Enter the route request
Use precise origin, destination and route inputs in the official system.
Resolve restrictions
Address bridge, clearance, construction, local-road and movement-condition issues.
Control changes
Do not substitute equipment or deviate from the authorized route without confirming authority.
Verify the current rule at the source.
Dates, route restrictions, bridge conditions and permit procedures can change. Use the current official material for the actual movement.
Machine Blue Book does not issue permits, calculate a legal route, certify a carrier or decide whether a load is divisible. The applicant, carrier and governing authorities control those determinations.
