Connect repeatable motion to safe material flow and process control

Robotics & Automation

Industrial robots, cobots, mobile systems, machine tending, palletizing and integrated production cells.

How this equipment family works

Automation value comes from the complete cell: parts, presentation, gripping, sensing, robot or motion platform, machine interface, safety system, recovery logic and people. A robot specification alone does not define throughput or reliability.

Decision sequence: Map the work sequence, variation, required rate, operator interaction and failure recovery. Then evaluate reach, payload, end-of-arm tooling, machine interfaces, guarding, controls and maintainability.
FOUR MACHINE-CLASS GUIDES

OWNERSHIP DEPTH STANDARD

Evaluate the whole robotics & automation system.

Reviewed 2026-10-03

These four controls turn a category page into an operating decision. Use them before comparing brand, age or asking price, then open the machine-class guides for exact evidence questions.

01 · SAFETY BOUNDARY

Map hazards by task and machine state.

Evaluate the complete application, not the robot alone: end effector, workpiece, interfaces, cell access, foreseeable misuse, recovery, maintenance and every source of unexpected motion or stored energy.

02 · RELIABILITY

Demand dated condition evidence.

Trend robot and axis condition, grippers, sensors, safety devices, batteries where used, machine interfaces, backups, network dependencies, spares and fault-recovery performance.

03 · INSTALLED COST

Price the production system.

Installed cost includes engineering, end-of-arm tooling, vision, guarding, controls, machine interfaces, networking, validation, training, spares, changeover and production ramp.

04 · EVIDENCE DATES

Know when every claim was true.

Date the risk assessment, stop or force test, rate study, software backup, route or changeover trial and interface validation. A demo cycle is not sustained production evidence.

Primary public context

These sources establish general context. The exact manual, current rules, local code, risk assessment and qualified professionals control the final decision.

CONNECTED MBB RESEARCH

Move from equipment class to a complete decision.

The encyclopedia defines the system. Existing Machine Blue Book resources connect that system to models, market evidence, technical references and the service network.

Primary context

These public authorities provide general manufacturing, measurement or safety context. They do not replace the equipment manual, code review, risk assessment or qualified engineering.
